Frank Ocean’s debut album Channel put up some great numbers selling 131,000 copies, entering at No. 2 on the Billboard 200. The album was released early on itunes after the brave singer revealed to the public that he was bisexual. Not only did Ocean drop the album a week early but appeared on Jimmy Fallon the very same night Channel Orange hit itunes. Retail stores were advised to sell the album as soon as they received shipment. 3,000 of the 131K were of physical copies from stores.
More controversy started after Target refused to sell the album, causing people to think the retail store decision was based on The Odd Future member’s sexuality. Target released a statement explaining their decision was based on the fact that itunes were given the exclusive first.
Only thing I can say is well done Frank Ocean
