Watch out Rihanna, there’s a new RocNation Princess on the rise! Jay Z’s new protege, Rita Ora, recently dropped another single, “R.I.P”. No, she’s not dead, but she is “deading” another girl, singing “R.I.P to the girl you used to see, her days are over, baby she’s over”. This track was co-written by Drake, and uses some words from one of Drake’s many unreleased singles.
NecoleBitchie.com reported that in a recent interview, Rita Ora explained the meaning behind the song saying, “It’s about a girl getting her own and telling her man “I’m so much better than your ex-girl that you don’t even know.” I’m always intrigued with who he use to go out with. “Who did you use to go out with?” Not because I cared about her. Not because I think they’re better than me or anything like that, it’s just because you always want to know. You’re going to compare yourself to the ex just because that’s what girls do.”
Of course, people are looking to start beef, and since Rita is being compared to Rihanna (same management, similar funky style), many are saying that this song could possibly be a diss to Rihanna (their words, not mine) especially since the rumor mill is buzzing that Jay wasn’t too thrilled about Rihanna’s choice to collaborate with her ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown, for the “Birthday Cake Remix” (which, by the way, is FIYAH!)
Either way, Rita Ora is THAT CHICK and I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of the London native this year.
