Actress Gabourey Sidibe has been engaged to her longtime bae, music industry executive, Brandon Frankel for two years.

As the covergirl for Brides magazine’s latest digital cover, the “Empire” actress was draped in an extravagant African printed gown and she discussed her unconventional plans for her precious day.

She stated, “The entire time we have been engaged, I’ve always been like, ‘No, we shouldn’t have a wedding.’ Maybe we’ll throw a barbecue, get married in the bathroom, and then we’ll come out and tell everyone we’re married.”

Of course Gabby won’t be getting married in the bathroom, but knowing the stress that can come with wedding planning, one might understand where she’s coming from.

The soon-to-be bride told Brides she doesn’t intend on having a bachelorette party or bridesmaids. “It cannot be a traditional wedding. Really, it can’t be. I don’t want anything done the ‘traditional’ way. Our relationship is very much on our own terms and I want it to be fun, like a true party.”

When speaking on her wedding gown, Sidibe said, “I definitely don’t need a white dress…. Whatever I wear on the wedding day will probably be African print. It might have a little white, so it looks like a wedding dress, but it’s definitely going to be colorful.”

With Gabby’s father being from Senegal, it’s commendable that she’s honoring her African roots, on her wedding day.
