Yasiin Bey AKA Mos Def Calls Drake’s Music Pop And Says His Music Is Good For Shopping Around In Target
Yo, the hip hop legend Mos Def, aka Yasiin Bey calls Drake’s music pop.
In a recent interview on “The Cutting Room Floor,” the host asked if Mos considers Drake to be “hip hop.” Brace yourself, ’cause Mos didn’t hold back – he straight-up said nah, not in the pure hip hop circle.
He broke it down, saying Drake’s tunes are like shopping music – easy on the ears, digestible, and maybe a little edgy at times. Comparing him to Target, Mos labeled Drake as mainstream and commercial, leaning more towards pop than hip hop. Ouch.
But hold up, he didn’t stop there. Mos questioned if Drake challenges his audience with art they might not love, pointing out the overwhelming pom-pom cheering. It’s a hot take for sure, and the ongoing debate about Drake’s hip hop credibility just got a fresh jolt from one of the greats.
