Bernice King Calls Out Sexyy Red For Posting AI Photos Of Herself With Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, rapper Sexyy Red raised eyebrows by sharing AI-generated photos featuring herself alongside the late civil rights leader. In one image, the two appear to be dancing in a nightclub, holding hands intimately. Another places her in the historic 1963 March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

Bernice King, the daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, responds calling the post “intentionally distasteful, dishonoring, deplorable, and disrespectful” to her family, and asked her to remove the photo.

The posts, shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account, sparked mixed reactions. Some users responded with laughing emojis, while others criticized the images as disrespectful. One commenter wrote, “Yoooo don’t try to disrespect Martin,” while another added, “You are not Coretta Scott King level.”

Some users responded humorously, creating their own AI images of Sexyy Red at historic events, such as the Stonewall Riots or Montgomery bus protests.

While the rapper, who endorsed Kamala Harris during her 2024 campaign, has yet to comment on the backlash, the posts have fueled debate about the use of AI and its role in honoring—or mocking—historical figures.
