Shakira is facing accusations of copying Beyoncé’s style after the debut of her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, which kicked off this week in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Fans quickly pointed out the striking similarities between Shakira’s performance and Beyoncé’s 2023 Renaissance tour, sparking a flurry of online reactions.

Photos from Shakira’s first tour stop show a massive screen displaying her name and the tour title, nearly identical to Beyoncé’s use of silver lettering for RENAISSANCE during her own tour. Additionally, Shakira used a giant metallic wolf on stage, resembling Beyoncé’s silver horse, and both Shakira and her dancers were clad in silver outfits, similar to the attire worn by Beyoncé and her team.

Fans on social media were quick to point out the parallels, with one user tweeting, “Shakira said they were studying Beyoncé but they actually ripped everything that wasn’t nailed to the floor omg.” Others took to X (formerly Twitter), accusing Shakira of plagiarism, while some defended her, suggesting she was simply “inspired” by Beyoncé’s iconic look.

Shakira herself previously mentioned that she took notes during Beyoncé’s Renaissance tour when she attended a concert in Tampa, Fla., in 2023. Shakira and Beyoncé have a longstanding friendship, having collaborated on the 2006 hit Beautiful Liar.

As the debate continues to unfold, fans remain divided, with some defending Shakira’s tour as a tribute to Beyoncé, while others criticize the similarities as unoriginal.
