Michelle Trachtenberg, the actress who rose to fame as a child star in Harriet the Spy and later gained recognition for her role on Gossip Girl, has died at the age of 39. According to the New York City police, Trachtenberg was found unresponsive in a Manhattan apartment after police responded to a 911 call on Wednesday morning, just after 8 a.m. local time.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrived at the scene and pronounced her dead. An NYPD spokesperson confirmed her identity, though they noted that “criminality is not suspected” at this time. The cause of death will be determined by the Medical Examiner’s office, with the investigation still ongoing.

An NYPD source mentioned that Trachtenberg had recently been dealing with a medical issue, and her death appeared to be related to natural causes, with no signs of foul play.

In a statement, a representative for Trachtenberg asked for privacy for the actress’s family as they mourn their loss, adding, “There are no further details at this time.”

Trachtenberg’s passing has left fans and the entertainment community in shock, as she was a beloved figure, particularly known for her roles in Harriet the Spy, Gossip Girl, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
