Woman Who Accused Jay-Z of Rape Heard on Recording Saying Lawyer Pushed Her to Sue

Jane Doe Withdraws Lawsuit Against Jay-Z and Diddy After Recording Emerges
A woman who previously accused Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter and Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexual assault following the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards has withdrawn her lawsuit with prejudice, meaning it cannot be revived. The case had stirred significant attention when the woman, identified as Jane Doe, alleged that both men assaulted her when she was 13 years old.
However, a recent recording surfaced in which Jane Doe is heard admitting that Jay-Z did not assault her. The recording, obtained by ABC News, features a conversation between Jane Doe and two private investigators connected to Jay-Z, where she clarifies that Jay-Z was not involved in any sexual acts against her. When asked directly by the investigators if Jay-Z was involved, she responds, “Yeah,” indicating that he was simply present but had no involvement.
In the recording, Jane Doe also claims that her lawyer, Tony Buzbee, was the one who encouraged her to pursue legal action against Jay-Z. “He was the one that kind of pushed me towards going forward with him, with Jay-Z,” she says. Buzbee has vehemently denied this, calling the accusation “a blatant lie,” stating that all documentary evidence contradicts this claim.
Jay-Z’s attorney, Alex Spiro, emphasized that the recording should put to rest any doubts about his client’s innocence, asserting that the woman herself has confirmed that Jay-Z was not involved. Spiro also noted that Jane Doe was pressured into including Jay-Z in the lawsuit, a claim she denies. She later stated that she withdrew the lawsuit due to fears of intimidation and retaliation from both Jay-Z and his supporters.
Despite the withdrawal of the lawsuit, Jane Doe maintains in a sworn declaration that she stands by her original claims. She further explained that she felt “intimidated and terrified” when confronted by the investigators at her home.
Jay-Z, who is one of the best-selling artists of all time, is now suing Jane Doe and Buzbee for defamation, which they deny. Spiro remarked that Jay-Z has been deeply affected by the false allegations, noting the impact on his family and children. However, he emphasized that Jay-Z is determined to prove his innocence and move forward.
