In a candid conversation on the April 16 episode of the IMO podcast, hosted by Michelle Obama and her brother Craig Robinson, actress Tracee Ellis Ross delved into her dating preferences, revealing a conscious choice to date younger men. At 52, Ross shared that her decision stems from a desire to avoid the toxic masculinity she often encounters in men her age.

“A lot of men my age are steeped in a toxic masculinity and have been raised in a culture where there is a particular way that a relationship looks,” Ross explained. She recounted past experiences where she felt controlled or treated as a possession, leading her to seek relationships that offer more freedom and equality.

Ross emphasized that younger men tend to exhibit greater openness and acceptance, particularly regarding concepts like gender fluidity and homosexuality. She expressed that she no longer feels responsible for educating or “growing up” her partners, stating, “I have long been past the age where I feel like it’s my job to teach somebody or grow them … .”

While Ross acknowledged moments of grief over not having children or a partner, she remains steadfast in her commitment to finding the right match. “As much as grief does surface … ,” she affirmed. In the meantime, Ross continues to embrace her independence, describing her dating journey as a “fascinating adventure.”

Ross’s insights contribute to a broader conversation about evolving relationship dynamics and the importance of emotional safety and autonomy in modern partnerships.
