Attorney Withdraws from Diddy’s Sex Trafficking Case Just Months Before Trial

A key attorney from Sean “Diddy” Combs’ legal team has filed to withdraw from the mogul’s federal sex trafficking case just months ahead of his trial. According to TMZ, attorney Anthony Ricco submitted a motion on February 21, 2025, to the Southern District of New York federal court, stating he could no longer “effectively serve as counsel” for Combs due to reasons that were not specified. Ricco emphasized that there were “sufficient reasons” for his decision but did not elaborate further.
Ricco joined Combs’ defense team after the Bad Boy Records founder’s arrest in September 2024. However, sources told TMZ that Ricco struggled to establish a necessary working relationship with Combs, which he felt was crucial for effective representation, especially with the trial looming. Despite his departure, Combs’ defense team will continue to be led by Marc Agnifilo and Teny Geragos, who remain committed to the case.
Combs, who faces charges including racketeering, sex trafficking, and kidnapping, has pleaded not guilty and was denied bail. He is currently being held in a Brooklyn jail cell as he awaits his trial, which is scheduled to begin in May 2025. A source close to the case assured that the situation was not a crisis, clarifying that Ricco’s withdrawal is in line with professional conduct standards, though it may sound dramatic.
