Legendary singer-songwriter Babyface found himself in an awkward red carpet moment at the 2025 GRAMMY Awards when Associated Press reporters abruptly shifted their attention from him to rising star Chappell Roan. The incident occurred mid-interview as Babyface was answering a question, only for the reporters to spot Roan—one of the night’s most-nominated artists—and quickly turn their focus to her.

A clip of the exchange quickly spread across social media, sparking reactions from fans and onlookers. Roan, nominated for Album of the Year for The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, had already delivered a standout performance earlier in the night with “Pink Pony Club,” making her one of the evening’s most talked-about artists.

Despite the interruption, Babyface handled the situation with grace. After one reporter called out to Roan, he calmly remarked, “You guys wanna do that? Go do that.” The journalists then apologized to the iconic musician as Roan approached.

Later in the evening, Associated Press journalist Krysta Fauria addressed the awkward moment in a social media clip. “I wanted to say that I’m really sorry about interrupting Babyface earlier,” she explained. “There was a lot of commotion, as there is on these carpets, but I’m a big Babyface fan, as we all are, and I just wanted to apologize.”

Despite the unintentional slight, Babyface—whose real name is Kenneth Edmonds and who holds 12 Grammy Awards from 54 nominations—appeared unbothered. However, fans on social media were quick to call out the journalists’ actions, questioning the handling of the exchange and showing support for the legendary artist.
