Betty White Died After Suffering A Stroke, Death Certificate Reveals

Our favorite grandma Betty White passed away at age 99. Betty White “died peacefully in her sleep at her home” on New Year’s Eve at age 99, her agent and longtime friend Jeff Witjas previously told PEOPLE. Betty died due to a cerebrovascular accident, according to her death certificate shared by TMZ.

Cerebrovascular disease refers to a group of conditions that affect blood flow and the blood vessels in the brain. Problems with blood flow may occur from blood vessel narrowing (stenosis), clot formation (thrombosis), artery blockage (embolism), or blood vessel rupture (hemorrhage).

According to the death certificate, White suffered a stroke six days before her death. A source tells PEOPLE “It was a mild stroke. She died peacefully in her sleep.”
