Brandy Is Ready To Tell Her Story In New Memoir

Brandy is finally ready to tell her story.
The Grammy-winning artist, actress, and pop culture icon will publish her highly anticipated memoir this fall, PEOPLE can exclusively announce. Set for release on October 7, 2025, through Hanover Square Press, the untitled book will chronicle Brandy’s life from her humble beginnings in Mississippi to her rise to stardom, and the personal and professional battles she faced along the way.
Brandy, now 45, first captured the public’s attention at the tender age of 15 with her platinum-selling debut album Brandy. Her breakout success was just the beginning, leading to a string of career-defining moments. She became a household name with the beloved sitcom Moesha, and in 1997, she made history as the first Black actress to portray a Disney princess in Cinderella—a role that has remained a pivotal moment in her legacy. Yet, behind the accolades and adoration was a young woman grappling with immense challenges.
In her memoir, Brandy promises to open up about “the unimaginable lows” she experienced on her path to self-acceptance. The book will dive deep into her struggles with body image, bullying, love, and heartbreak, offering an intimate look at her personal journey toward healing.
A statement shared with PEOPLE reveals that Brandy’s memoir will showcase not just the triumphs but also the resilience and strength it took for her to overcome the hardships she faced. “Brandy’s raw and inspiring memoir is a testament to hope, resilience, and the strength needed to make peace with the past,” the statement reads.
The timing of the memoir release coincides with a busy period in Brandy’s career. In 2024, she appeared in the A24 horror film The Front Room and reprised her iconic role as Cinderella in Descendants: The Rise of Red on Disney+. Reflecting on the experience of returning to the Disney universe, Brandy shared her deep gratitude for being able to inspire younger generations.
“It’s such an honor and such a blessing to be able to inspire people, to be able to have purpose that way, to be able to encourage young girls to dream big and to go after what you want,” Brandy said in an interview with PEOPLE.
With her memoir, Brandy hopes to inspire readers in a similar way. “I am so excited to finally share my full story in book form,” she said in a statement. “This memoir is the result of countless hours of reflection, work, and healing. I hope readers will find comfort and inspiration in these pages.”
Brandy’s memoir is set to be a powerful testament to her resilience, showcasing the many facets of her journey from a teen sensation to a mature, reflective artist. The book is available for preorder now, wherever books are sold.
