Charlamagne Tha God Says Kendrick Lamar’s Fiancée Could Sue Drake for Defamation

Charlamagne Tha God recently shared his thoughts on the ongoing legal battle between Drake and Universal Music Group (UMG), sparked by Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us.” Speaking on The Breakfast Club, Charlamagne questioned Drake’s lawsuit against UMG, which accuses the company of promoting “false and malicious” claims about him. Charlamagne suggested that Kendrick Lamar’s fiancée, Whitney Alford, might have a stronger case for defamation than Drake does.
The controversy began earlier this month when Drake filed a lawsuit in Texas, accusing UMG of spreading damaging narratives about him through the promotion of “Not Like Us.” In the song, Drake is indirectly accused of inappropriate behavior. UMG has since filed a motion to dismiss, calling Drake’s actions “retaliatory” and accusing him of trying to “limit the distribution” of the track.
Charlamagne, however, was critical of Drake’s approach, calling the lawsuit “frivolous.” He argued that the real potential for defamation lies with Alford, who was referenced in “Not Like Us.”
“If the lawsuit is full of Kendrick Lamar lyrics, and that’s the reason that you’re suing, come on now,” Charlamagne said. He pointed out that Kendrick’s fiancée, a private individual, was accused in the diss track of being a victim of domestic violence and having a child with Kendrick’s best friend and business partner. “That’s the real defamation,” Charlamagne argued, emphasizing that Alford is not a public figure and was unfairly dragged into the drama.
Charlamagne added that while Drake is suing UMG and not Kendrick directly, the focus on Lamar’s lyrics makes it hard to separate the two. “Ain’t nobody bigger than the program,” he concluded, criticizing Drake for filing what he sees as a misdirected legal action.
With UMG’s motion to dismiss filed and both sides standing firm, the legal drama surrounding “Not Like Us” continues to draw heated debate, with Charlamagne bringing attention to an angle few have considered. Whether Kendrick’s fiancée will pursue legal action remains to be seen.
