Rapper and YouTuber DDG made a bold move, chopping off his signature locs live on Twitch after surpassing his goal of 40,000 new subscribers during his weeklong “Hit-A-Thon” livestream. With more than 60,000 viewers tuning in, DDG followed through on his promise to cut his hair if he reached the milestone during the March 24 to March 31 event, which saw him create an entire album from scratch.

By the end of the livestream, DDG had gained over 42,000 new subscribers and peaked at an impressive 90,000 concurrent viewers. As he prepared to chop his hair, DDG addressed his audience: “Cutting my dreads right now on Twitch. It’s 60,000 people watching.”

Before the first loc was snipped, DDG invited his friends to join in the moment, saying, “Y’all wanna cut one?” As one of his friends held up the first strand, DDG jokingly shouted, “Noooo!” But by the time the last loc fell, DDG was ready for his new clean fade. However, he assured fans that this look would be short-lived. “I’mma go right back to where I started,” he said, “I’mma be a sky top again. I got to grow everything out.”

The dramatic haircut capped off an intense week of non-stop music creation and entertainment. Throughout the event, viewers helped shape DDG’s album by voting on beats, providing feedback on lyrics, and influencing the final tracklist. High-profile collaborators such as Ty Dolla $ign, Kevin Gates, Rich the Kid, and Shaboozey joined in, while popular Twitch personalities like Kai Cenat, Adin Ross, and Deshae Frost added to the event’s star power.

The “Hit-A-Thon” also featured thrilling challenges, including a Fear Factor-style test with “wild animals” after DDG hit 35,000 subscribers, keeping the excitement high throughout the seven-day stream. The event wrapped on March 31, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the release of the album and DDG’s next move.
