Judge Kenneth King, formerly overseeing major felony cases, has been reassigned to handle traffic violations and minor offenses after an incident involving a teenage girl during a courtroom field trip. In August, King lost his courtroom duties for ordering 15-year-old Eva Goodman into jail clothes and handcuffs for falling asleep and displaying what he perceived as a “bad attitude.” This event, which was live-streamed, led to disciplinary action, including social-emotional training. Chief Judge William McConico expressed appreciation for King’s preparation for his new role.

King’s attorney, Todd Perkins, emphasized his client’s willingness to serve in any role after his reassignment. During the field trip incident, Judge King threatened to send Goodman to juvenile detention in front of her peers, a decision that was widely criticized. Following the disciplinary process, King now returns to a less prominent judicial role focused on traffic cases and minor offenses.

Chief Judge McConico highlighted King’s efforts in preparing for his new responsibilities, indicating confidence in his capacity to handle the traffic division’s duties effectively. Despite losing his primary courtroom duties, King appears committed to his ongoing judicial career in a more limited capacity.
