Dwyane Wade Watches With His Family As The Miami Heat Unveil His Statue

Dwyane Wade has become the first Miami Heat player to have a statue outside the team’s arena. The statue was unveiled on Sunday, roughly eight months after team president Pat Riley announced the tribute. Wade is the all-time leading scorer for the Heat and is one of only two players, along with Udonis Haslem, to have participated in all three championship-winning teams.

An in-game celebration is scheduled for Monday when Miami hosts Detroit, marking the 21st anniversary of Wade’s debut. Wade, a Basketball Hall of Fame inductee, is one of six former Heat players to have their jerseys retired by the team, joining Haslem, Chris Bosh, Tim Hardaway, Shaquille O’Neal, and Alonzo Mourning.

“This is crazy. I wanted to feel this. Life goes by so fast and it’s very rare that we get to feel things, because we’re always off to the next thing. … I wanted to feel this, man. I wanted to look at it.”

Riley stated, “As the greatest player in Miami Heat history, yes, it’s his day, it’s his family’s day.” The statue, located outside the arena’s main entrance, includes a wall detailing Wade’s career achievements. In addition to his accomplishments in basketball, Wade is now a part-owner of the Utah Jazz and has various business ventures.
