Jalen Brunson Signs $156.5 Million Extension with Knicks, Leaving $113 Million on the Table
Jalen Brunson has signed a four-year, $156.5 million contract extension with the New York Knicks, leaving potentially over $113 million on the table to continue being the marquee player at Madison Square Garden. The extension, announced by the team, includes a player option for the fourth year. Had Brunson waited until next summer, he could have secured a five-year, $270 million deal. However, his decision reflects his dedication to the Knicks and helps the team manage salary cap concerns.
“Jalen signing the extension to remain with the Knicks for the long-term shows the dedication and passion he has for the organization, the fans, and this city,” said Knicks president Leon Rose. Brunson’s willingness to take a team-friendly deal was inspired by financial sacrifices made by athletes like Derek Jeter and Tom Brady. This extension allows the Knicks to maintain a strong core of players, including Julius Randle, Josh Hart, and Mikal Bridges, as they aim for an NBA title.
