Judge in Wendy Williams’ Guardianship Case Not Happy About Her Talking To The Media, Pushes for Stricter Facility

The judge overseeing Wendy Williams’ guardianship case has expressed frustration with the former talk show host’s “behavior” and is now calling for her to be moved to a more restrictive facility. According to an email obtained by TMZ, Judge Lisa Sokoloff voiced her discontent, indicating that Wendy’s level of independence within her current residence, the Coterie facility, may be more than she can handle.

The email, sent to Wendy’s lawyer, referenced a previous court order that mandated Wendy’s move to a new facility. Wendy’s attorney had argued that relocating her to a facility with even tighter restrictions would be unjust. However, Judge Sokoloff made it clear that she remains concerned about Wendy’s ability to handle her current independence. The judge wrote, “I have always contended that [Wendy] will be given the independence she can handle. I question how well she has handled the independence she has been given.”

Sources close to the situation suggest the judge’s irritation stems from Wendy’s ongoing public comments about her guardianship and the facility. Wendy has spoken out to the media, calling her current living situation a “luxury prison” and criticizing both her guardian and the facility. Despite being warned by the judge not to speak to the press, Wendy has continued to express her dissatisfaction.

In one email, Judge Sokoloff warned Wendy’s lawyer, stating, “Tell your client that if she wants a jury, she should refrain from trying to poison the jury pool.” This remark suggests that the judge is concerned Wendy’s public statements could influence potential jurors in her case, as Wendy has repeatedly denied being mentally incompetent and voiced her desire to be released from the guardianship.

Wendy has also expressed frustration with the restrictions placed on her daily life at Coterie. She claims that she is unable to leave the 5th floor memory unit without an attendant and that she rarely gets fresh air. A staff member at the facility confirmed to TMZ that Wendy has very limited freedom, with no phone access, no internet, and few visitors allowed.

Despite these restrictions, Wendy reportedly passed a mental competency test at Lenox Hill Hospital, where she is currently undergoing further evaluations. The judge noted in an email that the hospital is ready to discharge Wendy but that her guardian has found other facilities that are willing to assess her, despite her behavior. The judge insisted that Wendy return to Coterie until a more suitable facility is found.

People close to Wendy tell TMZ that she is bracing for even tighter restrictions, viewing this latest move as “pure retaliation” for speaking out against what she describes as an “abusive” guardianship.
