Judge Rules in Favor of 10 Women Accusing Bill Cosby of Sexual Assault, Allowing Lawsuit to Proceed

A Nevada judge has ruled that 10 women who have accused Bill Cosby of sexual assault can proceed with their lawsuit, marking a significant development in the ongoing legal battles against the former TV legend. According to The Jasmine Brand, the lawsuit was filed under a state law that allows civil cases involving sexual assault to move forward regardless of when the alleged incidents took place, as long as they are tied to older statutes of limitations.
The women involved in this case allege that Cosby sexually assaulted them during the 1970s and 1980s, accusations that come amid a wave of similar claims spanning over several decades. Despite being released from prison in 2021 when the Pennsylvania Supreme Court overturned his 2018 criminal conviction, Cosby continues to face civil actions from multiple accusers across the country.
This latest ruling follows Cosby’s legal team’s attempts to have the case dismissed, arguing that the time for filing these claims had expired. However, the judge’s decision indicates that the plaintiffs can pursue their legal actions, supported by Nevada’s extended statute of limitations for sexual assault claims.
The decision comes at a time when Cosby has faced more than 60 public allegations of sexual misconduct, many of which echo the claims in this current case. While his conviction for assaulting Andrea Constand was overturned, Cosby has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, maintaining that the encounters were consensual. Cosby’s legal team has expressed their intent to continue fighting these new allegations.
This ruling allows the case to progress, potentially leading to another high-profile legal showdown for Cosby. The plaintiffs, who have long sought justice, view this as a crucial step forward in holding Cosby accountable for his alleged actions.
