On March 20, Kay Flock, the New York drill rapper, was found guilty of several crimes related to his alleged involvement with the Sev Side gang. After two days of deliberation, a jury returned “mostly—but not all—guilty verdicts,” according to the Inner City Press. Flock was convicted on charges of racketeering conspiracy, the use of a firearm resulting in death, attempted murder, and assault with a dangerous weapon in aid of racketeering. However, he was acquitted on a charge of murder in aid of racketeering.

Acting U.S. Attorney Matthew Podolsky of the Southern District of New York issued a statement following the verdict, describing Flock as the leader of the Sev Side/DOA gang. “Perez, a drill rapper, instilled fear across the community with his violent actions,” Podolsky said. “But as a unanimous jury has now found, Perez can no longer hide behind his music and will be held to account for his violent crimes.”

The case centered on a series of violent acts committed by Flock and his associates, including the murder of 24-year-old Hwascar Hernandez. Hernandez was fatally shot on December 16, 2021, outside a Harlem barbershop after a confrontation with Flock. While Flock’s defense argued that the shooting was in self-defense, the jury found him guilty on multiple charges related to gang violence and firearm use.

Flock’s sentencing is set for July 16.
