Lawyer for Shannon Sharpe Accuser Says Sex Tape Will Not Be Released, Calls It “Key Evidence”

The attorney representing the woman who has accused former NFL star Shannon Sharpe of rape says the sex tape allegedly depicting the two of them will not be released to the public — calling it critical evidence in their ongoing lawsuit.

Tony Buzbee, attorney for the woman identified in the suit as Jane Doe, told TMZ Sports that despite public speculation, he and his client have no intention of sharing the video with media outlets.

“The only reason you know about the existence of a video recording is that Mr. Sharpe specifically referenced it in his bulls*** statement,” Buzbee said.

Buzbee explained that the video, which reportedly shows Sharpe and the plaintiff engaging in sex, was disclosed only during private mediation discussions and shared exclusively with Sharpe’s legal team. According to Buzbee, the former tight end was offered multiple opportunities to view the footage — but declined each time.

“We’ve never made any claims or threats about it and won’t do so,” Buzbee continued. “And no, we won’t be ‘releasing’ the video as it is key evidence in the case and will be treated as such.”

Sharpe first brought up the video on April 22, two days after the lawsuit was filed. In an Instagram statement, he claimed the footage was a 30-second clip intended to paint him as guilty, and said it should actually be “10 minutes or so” in full. He challenged Buzbee to release the unedited version publicly, though the attorney has declined.

The lawsuit, filed earlier this month, accuses Sharpe of multiple instances of sexual assault toward the end of what is described as a nearly two-year-long relationship. The plaintiff is seeking $50 million in damages.

Sharpe has vehemently denied the accusations, characterizing the suit as a “shakedown attempt.” He has temporarily stepped away from his high-profile role at ESPN while preparing to defend himself in court.

As of now, no criminal charges have been filed, and the case remains a civil matter.
