LeBron James Breaks Silence on Stephen A. Smith Confrontation: “It’s Like a Taylor Swift Tour Run”

Nearly three weeks after his on-court confrontation with Stephen A. Smith during the Los Angeles Lakers’ 113-109 victory over the New York Knicks, LeBron James finally addressed the fallout on “The Pat McAfee Show” Wednesday morning, referring to the ESPN broadcaster’s response as a “Taylor Swift tour run.”

The beef between James and Smith began after the broadcaster made critical comments about LeBron’s son, Bronny. During a January 29 episode of First Take, Smith suggested Bronny should spend his rookie year in the G League, questioning whether he was NBA-ready and implying he only made the league due to his father’s influence. LeBron, feeling strongly about the remarks, confronted Smith in the middle of the game a week later.

In the interview, LeBron refrained from revealing exactly what was said during the altercation but made it clear that Smith’s subsequent reactions bothered him. “He’s like on a Taylor Swift tour run right now,” James said. “It started off with, ‘I didn’t want to address it … but since the video came out I feel the need to address it.’”

James, however, was skeptical of Smith’s initial reluctance to speak out, adding, “[Smith] couldn’t wait till the video comes out so [he] can address it.”

Smith, for his part, has been vocal about the incident. On a recent episode of the Gil’s Arena podcast, Smith called James “weak” for the confrontation, describing the moment as LeBron getting “right in my face” and telling him, “You gotta stop talking (expletive) about my son.” Smith also claimed he suggested they discuss the issue after the game, but James refused.

LeBron disagreed with Smith’s interpretation, clarifying his intent behind the confrontation. “He completely missed the whole point. Never would I ever not allow people to talk about the sport… but when you take it personal, it’s my job to protect my damn household and protect the players.”

James also suggested that the ongoing tension was likely benefiting Smith. “He’s gonna be smiling from ear to ear when he hears me talking about him,” James said. “I know he’s gonna be happy as hell.”

The drama continues to brew between the two, with both sides making their points clear and the public watching closely.
