Lil Wayne Defends Nicki Minaj After Kendrick Perkins’ Disrespect

Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj have always shared one of the most solid relationships in hip-hop, and once again, the rapper showed that he will always stand by his protegée. The latest instance of their strong bond came after NBA commentator Kendrick Perkins made a disrespectful comment about Nicki Minaj while discussing the Golden State Warriors’ pursuit of Jimmy Butler.

During a broadcast, Perkins attempted an analogy, comparing the Warriors’ trade ambitions to getting a high-profile artist like Taylor Swift or Beyoncé—only to “end up with a Kendrick Perkins.” His comment was seen as an indirect jab at Nicki, who has often been regarded as the queen of rap. As expected, the Barbz quickly rallied in her defense, with fans calling out Perkins on social media.

But it wasn’t just Minaj’s loyal fans who came to her aid. Lil Wayne, her longtime mentor and collaborator, wasn’t having it. On Friday night (February 2), Wayne took to Twitter to clap back at Perkins, writing, “The Warriors thought they was getting a Taylor Swift or a Beyoncé and ended up getting a #kendrickperkins Stop playin bish.”

Perkins quickly apologized for his remarks, but Lil Wayne made it clear that a simple apology wouldn’t be enough to escape the wrath of the Young Money legend. This incident is a reminder that, despite their busy careers, Wayne and Nicki will always have each other’s backs—showing that their hip-hop bond remains as strong as ever.
