Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison for Fatal Shooting of Atlanta Rapper “Trouble”

The man accused of fatally shooting Atlanta rapper Mariel Semonte Orr, better known by his stage name “Trouble,” will spend 20 years in prison, following a guilty plea to voluntary manslaughter. Jamichael Jones, who had been facing charges of home invasion, felony murder, and aggravated assault, entered his plea on Friday, March 21, in a Rockdale County Superior Court. With the plea agreement, Jones’ trial, which was scheduled to start on Monday, was avoided altogether.

The fatal incident occurred in the early morning hours of June 5, 2022, when Orr was found at the Lake St. James Apartments in Conyers with a gunshot wound. Deputies from the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office responded to a 911 call and discovered Orr had been shot in the chest. Despite being rushed to a local hospital, Orr later succumbed to his injuries.

Jones was quickly identified as a suspect, and a search led to his surrender outside a Clayton County hospital on June 7. He was denied bond by a Rockdale County Magistrate Court judge.

The incident was sparked by a domestic dispute between Jones and his ex-girlfriend, who had been in bed with Orr at the time. According to the arrest warrant, Jones arrived at the apartment and began physically attacking his ex-girlfriend. When Trouble intervened, Jones allegedly pulled out a gun and shot him. Deputies noted that the apartment’s front door had been forcibly opened, and surveillance footage confirmed Jones’ presence at the scene. The shooting took place within just seven minutes of Jones’ arrival.
