The highly anticipated Snowfall spinoff has just made a significant leap forward, with FX officially ordering a pilot for the project, Variety reports exclusively.

First announced in 2023, ahead of Snowfall’s series finale, the untitled drama will see the return of fan-favorite Gail Bean as Wanda Bell-Simmons, alongside Isaiah John reprising his role as Leon Simmons. Set in 90s Los Angeles, the pilot follows a recovering addict (Bean) as she attempts to bring West Coast rap to the mainstream, all while navigating the tensions and dangers of a gang war.

Malcolm Spellman will write and executive produce the pilot, with Snowfall alums Dave Andron, Thomas Schlamme, Julie DeJoie, Michael London, and Trevor Engelson also serving as executive producers. FX Productions will handle the studio duties.

The Snowfall spinoff promises to build on the groundwork laid by the original series, which explored the devastating crack cocaine epidemic in South Central LA. The show, created by the late John Singleton, Eric Amadio, and Andron, ran for six successful seasons on FX from 2017 to 2023, with a talented ensemble cast that included Damson Idris, Carter Hudson, Emily Rios, and more. Fans of the original series will undoubtedly be eager to see how this new chapter unfolds.
