Jesse Collins, producer of the upcoming Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, recently addressed the controversy surrounding Kendrick Lamar’s selection as the headliner, a decision some fans felt should have gone to Lil Wayne, especially since the event will take place in New Orleans. Collins acknowledged Lil Wayne’s enormous influence on hip-hop but defended the choice to go with Kendrick Lamar, crediting Jay-Z with making the final call.

“You can never discount what Lil Wayne has done for the culture,” Collins said, acknowledging Weezy’s impact. However, he explained that Kendrick was chosen due to his unique energy and powerful messages. “Kendrick is such a big artist, and he’s got such an important message. It was the right pick, and it’s going to be an unforgettable show.”

Collins also added, “It’s a decision that Jay [Z] makes. Since we’ve been on board with that show, he’s made it every year, and it’s been amazing. He’s always picked right!” This statement shows Jay-Z’s pivotal role in shaping the halftime show experience since his involvement with Roc Nation.

While many fans were rooting for Lil Wayne, especially given his ties to New Orleans, Collins hinted at the possibility of surprises during the performance, leaving the door open for potential collaborations on the Super Bowl stage.
