The Weeknd Donates $1 Million to Wildfire Relief Efforts in Los Angeles

The Weeknd is stepping up to support those affected by the devastating wildfires sweeping through the Los Angeles area. The Grammy-winning artist, born Abel Tesfaye, has pledged $1 million to relief efforts, spreading his donation across three key organizations working to aid victims and help repair the city.
Announced on Friday, January 17, The Weeknd’s contribution will benefit the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, GoFundMe’s Wildfire Relief Fund, and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank. His donation will assist first responders who are tirelessly battling the fires and provide much-needed aid to the tens of thousands of residents displaced by evacuation orders in and around Los Angeles.
The Weeknd’s generous donation is part of a broader effort that also includes collaborations with World Food Program USA and The Weeknd’s XO Humanitarian Fund. His act of compassion comes just days after the singer canceled his much-anticipated Rose Bowl concert, originally scheduled for January 25, due to the fires impacting nearby Pasadena.
In a statement regarding the concert cancellation and the delay of his album Hurry Up Tomorrow (now set to release on January 31), The Weeknd expressed his concern for the community, writing, “The city has always been a profound source of inspiration for me, and my thoughts are with everyone impacted during this difficult time. My focus remains on supporting the recovery of these communities and aiding its incredible people as they rebuild.”
His donation comes amid a rapidly escalating wildfire crisis that began on January 7 in Pacific Palisades, and has since spread throughout L.A. County, destroying homes and infrastructure. The fires have claimed at least 25 lives and caused widespread damage, but efforts like The Weeknd’s donation are helping bring hope and support to the devastated region.
The Weeknd joins a growing list of celebrities who have rallied to support the people of Los Angeles during this unprecedented crisis. His generosity highlights not only his commitment to humanitarian causes but also his deep connection to the city that has long been a source of inspiration for his music.
