Tory Lanez Confirms Studio Equipment Was Confiscated During Prison Cell Block Raid
Tory Lanez has spoken out about the confiscation of his studio equipment during a cell block raid, stating that authorities are targeting him for his influence behind bars. The Canadian rapper took to Instagram, claiming that his “Prison Tapes” project, which aimed to release music from prison, has been discontinued after officials realized the positive impact it was having on inmates.
Lanez, who is currently serving a 10-year sentence, expressed frustration over the raid and seizure of his equipment. He said that despite rumors, the raid wasn’t just about his ability to record from prison. He believes that the “higher ups” are aware of the real reason behind his initiative—the significant legal help he’s been offering inmates.
In his post, Lanez detailed that since the launch of his “Prison Tapes” project in July, he’s been able to secure legal representation for 472 inmates and has successfully reopened 476 cases. This, according to him, is the real reason for the confiscation. Lanez claims that those in power view him as a “threat” due to his efforts to combat mass incarceration, especially against people of color.
Lanez further explained that he believes his imprisonment was meant to expose him firsthand to the systemic issues faced by inmates, particularly those from marginalized communities. He has vowed to continue his mission despite the temporary halt of his music project.
He ended his post with a note of defiance, saying, “If ANYTHING happens to me, just know I went out in a blaze of glory trying to revolutionize the end of a mass incarceration era on our people.”
This latest development adds another layer to Lanez’s already contentious situation. His sentencing stemmed from his involvement in a shooting incident involving Megan Thee Stallion in 2020, for which he was convicted. Despite the legal challenges and prison time, Lanez has maintained his innocence and continues to speak out about what he sees as injustices within the prison system.
His fans have been vocal about their support, and many are curious about the future of the “Prison Tapes” project, which had gained attention for its innovative approach to both music and social justice. With Lanez claiming that his overall mission goes beyond just music, it remains to be seen how his advocacy for inmates will evolve amid these new challenges.
