Travis Scott is getting real about the Astroworld Festival tragedy that went down in 2021, leaving 10 people dead and many more hurt. In a chat with GQ, the rapper opened up, calling that night “devastating” and something he can’t shake off.

He shared, “That moment for families, for the city, you know, it was devastating.” Travis keeps it on his mind, expressing, “I always think about it. Those fans were like my family. You know, I love my fans … You just feel for those people. And their families.”

When asked if his post-Astroworld studio sessions influenced his music, he seems to think they did. According to him, his music is always about tuning into his life experiences. Travis describes getting back into music after the Astroworld incident as “therapeutic.” He mentions how he could channel some of that intense energy into his production and sounds, bringing things to completion.

In case you missed it, Travis dropped his album, Utopia, in July, making it his first release since the Astroworld tour. One of the tracks, “My Eyes,” delves into his perspective on the tragic event. Travis notes that it reflects “the things I deal with on a day-to-day basis and the fact of how it could be misunderstood and the struggles of life and all aspects of life. The constant weight that’s put on.” 🎤💔
