In a recent statement, Universal Music Group (UMG) has vigorously denied the claims made in Drake’s ongoing defamation lawsuit, calling the allegations “untrue” and “illogical.” UMG emphasized its long-standing partnership with the artist, asserting that the company has heavily invested in his music and supported his career at every turn.

The statement goes on to highlight the company’s commitment to Drake’s success, noting that UMG has worked tirelessly to help him achieve both commercial and personal financial milestones. It also addressed the artist’s well-known use of provocative lyrics in his music, particularly in “rap battles,” an established part of his creative expression.

UMG rejected the notion that they would ever seek to harm the reputation of any artist, especially Drake. The label stressed that the legal action taken by the artist is an attempt to “weaponize” the legal process, aiming to silence creative expression and seek damages for music distribution.

“Throughout his career, Drake has intentionally and successfully used UMG to distribute his music and poetry,” UMG said. “We have not and do not engage in defamation against any individual.”

The company vowed to vigorously defend the lawsuit, asserting that they would protect their people, their reputation, and the rights of all artists, emphasizing the importance of defending against what they consider frivolous legal actions aimed at stifling creative freedom.
