In Las Vegas, eight high school students are facing murder charges in connection with the fatal beating of fellow student Jonathan Lewis. The 17-year-old tragically lost his life earlier this month due to blunt force trauma injuries sustained in a beatdown near Rancho High School. The Clark County coroner’s office ruled it a homicide, leading to the arrests.

Authorities in Sin City revealed on Tuesday that all 8 arrested individuals, aged between 13 and 17, are students at Rancho High. With FBI assistance, the arrests were made Tuesday morning, and law enforcement is actively working to identify two more teens believed to be involved in the fatal incident.

The altercation occurred on Nov. 1 after school hours, with video footage capturing Jonathan being attacked by a group of students. Police state that the fight stemmed from a dispute over stolen wireless headphones and possibly a vape pen, leading to an agreement to settle it in an alley.

While the video shows Jonathan, who is white, being swarmed by mostly Black students, authorities clarify that the incident is not being treated as a hate crime. However, they emphasize that the beating was “void of humanity.” Due to their status as minors, the police are withholding the names of the students, but they will face prosecution as adults.
